I could have my own country inside of me.

There are many things in the world that don't make sense to me: why people originally settled in cold climates, shoulder pads, cheerleading, video games…

But there is something that continually baffles me, that is in, what I would consider, a bit more serious category: good, intelligent, fine folk (and institutions) turning their back on the issue of abortion.

In a country where much of the way our law is interpreted is based on precedents, this is an impressive precedent that we are willing to just wave off into the distance: A child is not covered by the constitution until the mother decides that she wants that child.

Some courts have decided that if someone kills a woman who is pregnant, they can be tried for two murders, yet we have such opposition to the bill that bans partial birth abortion.

This bill legally defines a "partial-birth abortion" as any abortion in which the baby is delivered "past the [baby's] navel . . . outside the body of the mother," or "in the case of head-first presentation, the entire fetal head is outside the body of the mother," before the baby is killed.

This bill DOES allow for an exception if the mother's life is in danger. (Thank you major news organizations for continuing to mislead the public about this.)

But, let us step back for a second and notice that a living child is half-delivered, and then a hole is punched in its skull and saline solution is squirted into his or her head until he or she dies. Then the child is delivered and set in a back room, where, believe it or not, sometimes the child is not dead at this point. Nurses are specifically instructed to leave the child alone until it dies (wait… this child isn't even IN the mother anymore...)

Occasionally a nurse can't take it anymore, and leaves and that is how we know all of this. And that is why occasionally there is an abortion survivor because someone looks down at this child and thinks "Wait a second. I am killing this child."

This living child that was half delivered, really, could have just been delivered and handed over. I doubt there has ever in the history of this country been a woman who wanted to give up a child who could not find a family who wanted to take that child in.

It's just not a personal issue. A woman doesn't kill herself: she kills her child. And this so-called freedom that we have given women has really, truly backfired. It gives men a free ride to hand over a wad of twenties and say "see ya." We live in a day and age now where "getting pregnant" is not a responsibility, it’s not even an issue. She can "take care" of the child. But who, then is taking care of the woman who was just devalued?

This is the "freedom" that is so cleverly disguised as "pro-women" and "pro-choice."

And does our government, welfare system, abortion doctors, or scientists really have a woman’s best interests in mind when they fight so hard for this “freedom.” Abortion is a financially great solution for all of them. My only point here is that we should examine the source of our information, and consider that there may be alterior motives at play.

Scientifically and ethically, we have opened up the door for the human life (if unwanted, unable to sustain itself, or undesirable) to be considered something OTHER than a human life under our constitution.

I am the biggest skeptic of people creating fear for our collective future, but the devaluing of life is happening now. Stem cells from embryos are currently being used in scientific research. "Scientists say embryonic stem cell research is a promising avenue that could lead to the treatment and possibly cure of dread diseases. But it is unlikely that anyone with these diseases today will be helped. So far, there has not even been successful treatment in mice, and no specific help for humans is on the horizon." -NY Times. There is NO reason for this. It kills the embryo, and there are alternative stem cells that can be used that do not kill humans. Adult stem cells have "even been used successfully in numerous adult patients." - (The Case for Adult Stem Cell Research by Wolfgang Lillge, M.D.).

Why do I care about this? Because someday someone is going to figure out that they need a kidney and people willing to donate are not dying soon enough to give them one, and they will look at these thousands of unwanted, but perfectly good lives that we are letting die, and they will say, "Wait, I could get a kidney from one of these people! Yes! Ah ha!"

And because you, my dear, live in a country that is rich in power, you ARE responsible. If you have nothing else, you have a vote: one free, good vote. And that vote does (as we have saw in 2000) matter. You do have a say in what our large collective governmental arm does. How we swing, (or don't swing) it around the world, how life is defined and valued.

Please, please pray and please, please vote. And please, please, please make it known to who ever you vote for where you stand. They DO listen. We complain always about how they do things just to get votes. Well, than let's tell them what we value.

There are a number of seats on the Supreme Court that are going to need to be filled in this presidential term. This is a huge deal. Augh… so big of a deal, and I’ve said so much already.

Just vote. If not for yourself, vote for those that can’t.
