Go Team!

iowa-title1.jpg For those wondering where my football loyalties lie...

I mean, c'mon, college football is much more pure than the NFL anyway.

Grand Canyon Tour Update

RetreatGroupsmall.jpg Well, we're six days into the tour and a full six days it has been. Check out Nate's blog for a little slice of our drive out here and the HFT blog for a detailed recap of the tour thus far.

As I mention in the HFT blog, Nate and I had the chance to stay and hang at the Village X retreat this weekend. (The picture is of the whole group at the retreat). I must admit, I was planning on it being purely a lodging and meals deal and I was looking forward to just having the time to myself to do some hiking and reading and writing and serious napping. Right from the get go, it became very apparent that Nate and I were being completely assimilated into the program of the retreat. Name tags, welcome bags and an extremely welcoming attitude from everyone there seemed to seal our fate as "retreat participators" and not merely "retreat spectators." As this reality began to sink in, I decided it was probably best to just embrace it all and see what God might have in store for me in this little mountain resort.

As quick as I was able to embrace this reality, God began to show me why He wanted me there. The speaker for the weekend, Craig Dunham, lead discussion style sessions that hit me square in the heart. He impressed on us the importance of asking the question, "Who Am I?" From here discussions on the topics of community, vulnerability and mentoring all seemed aimed right at me.

Craig pulled much of his material from his recently co-authored book, Twenty Someone I have begun reading this book and recommend it to any and everyone, even those who are beyond or before their "Twenties."

All in all, the weekend was a refreshing time of spiritual learning and encouragement. Mad props to those at Village 7 that put this thing on and to Craig for speaking so honestly. If you end up reading the book, let me know here and by all means, swing over to Craig's blog as well.

I hear that canyon is grand

Well, I just finished packing for our two and a half week "Grand Canyon Tour." It will take us to wonderfully exotic locales like Denver, Colorado Springs, Phoenix and Albuquerque...just to name a few. Our hope is that we get to see the ol' Canyon while we're in the 'hood. And that the van doesn't revolt on us. We can't handle another revolution in HFT. I will try and make an effort to post here periodically on this tour, giving you, the reader, an inside look into the often times grity under belly of HFT. Of course, I've said that before and look where it has gotten us...here. Which happens to be "not very far." But seriously, swing on back...I'll do my best!

In the meantime, let this mildly entertain/offend you. Mildly. Yes.
